Fermoie is delighted to present ‘Marlborough’ and ‘Ruffle’, two new fabric collections for Autumn 2024, joining the extensive in-house produced family of beautiful hand-drawn designs.
Though very different in style, both collections demonstrate the fundamental importance of the designer’s creative discernment and artistic eye in determining how colors combine with the cloth’s warp and weft as the light falls upon it. In each case, the effect is a delightful layering of textures and a feeling of depth, intrigue and intimacy.
These collections exemplify the creative journey we take in our pursuit of joy and beauty with every new Fermoie design. It begins with a conversation, in which our team exchange ideas, influences and inspirations. Then, as we move into drawing, creating colors, seeing how they work on different basecloths, the design evolves and takes on a life of its own: it’s that sense of discovery, serendipity and revelation that makes our work so enjoyable.

Marlborough Collection
Marlborough, inspired by a study of early damasks, a modern interpretation of large scale woven English textiles. The design reflects and celebrates the studio’s love of intricate and reversible patterns with its delicate, intertwining floral and leaf motif. As it flows and curves across the fabric, the design evokes the gentle beauty and elaborate, organic forms of an English rose garden.
Like all Fermoie designs, the whole repeat is drawn entirely in-house, by hand, and thus not perfectly symmetrical as a digitally generated design would be. The layers of subtle texture give the print its depth and visual interest, as part of this reimagining the studio felt it was important to introduce colorways with a softer, more contemporary feel than the rich colors usually associated with traditional damasks.
The 100% linen basecloth weave accentuates the design’s soft, painterly lines and gives it a sense of scale and impact entirely appropriate for a print of this kind. Taken together, this combination gives Marlborough an authentic yet thoroughly modern character and makes it easy to place in any setting.
Marlborough is presented in 15 carefully chosen colors and takes its name from the charming historic market town in rural Wiltshire, England, where Fermoie was first established in 2010 and calls home to this day.
Ruffle Collection
Conceived through an initial creative conversation around revisiting and reinterpreting familiar traditional weaves, Ruffle is a bold continuous design perfectly embodying the artistry and playfulness that are defining Fermoie characteristics.
As its name suggests, the new collection features an intricate ruffle pattern created to evoke a sense of three-dimensional movement through texture, depth and dimension. The separate geometric shapes have been deftly abstracted and blended together to form a flowing pattern in which a subtle check repeat is visible.
Contemporary, versatile and easy to use, Ruffle is created on 100% cotton fabric, with a twill weave that highlights the delicate details in the hand-drawn design.
Each of the 15 colorways includes bold, lively multicolored and more restrained two-toned options, creating opportunities to produce specific effects and express very different moods.
The new Fermoie Marlborough and Ruffle collections are priced at £170.00 per metre. Both will be available to order from 10th September 2024 at Fermoie website and can also be viewed and ordered at the company’s showroom in Pimlico, London, and through retail partners worldwide.
