From Within, Axel Arigato’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, facilitates a moment of introspection and manifestation for the brand as it celebrates turning 10 in 2024.
From Within microscopes the visual language of the Axel Arigato world, celebrating a decade of creativity and concentrating this honed aesthetic into the brand’s footwear and ready-to- wear collections.
The design team’s eye looked inward for inspiration – surveying the structures, materials and objects that have come to define the brand. Stores and offices historically treated as gallery spaces by the Axel Arigato team – further inspire the color palettes, silhouettes and textures of Spring/Summer 2024; from bulging Jon Buck sculptures to in-store organic shapes iterated in concrete, metal and stone. These touch points have come to inform the “design red lines” of the season.
New footwear heroes include the Satellite, a runner for men designed in “Axel foam” – complete with abstract ‘A’ on the side and bubble sole pebbling that references Buck’s sculptures. Also new is the Onyx, a basketball low-top style available in four colorways, with anniversary ‘Est. 2014’ branding on the shoe’s rear panelling.
More expressive pieces include an evolved Area and Marathon created this season in patchwork, that talks to the wider design language of ready-to-wear; The Area Sandal, a summer mule style that builds from Area’s design DNA – and the Platform Sneaker, an elevated fashion sneaker with platform sole that borrows craft-stitching and pattern cuts from its clothing counterparts.
Ready-to-wear also draws inspiration from a 10-year-strong aesthetic now synonymous with Axel Arigato. Music has continually informed this – as the brand’s ambition remains to make this medium accessible to all. SS24 is designed with dance and movement in mind; Drapes and fabrications are selected to be worn in motion – conjuring the energy of being at an event and moving the body to a beat.
Alongside elevated everyday staples and summer shirt-and-short co-ords, stand out pieces in menswear include a bomber jacket crafted in a bespoke seasonal bubble A print jacquard. This pattern is a recurring motif used throughout – including padded cell t-shirts and a short-sleeve woven shirt.
Further brand touch points include a playful homage to the brand’s Instagram roots – a love of dog and cat memes – interpreted in embroidered graphics or woven into luxury knits. The classic Axel Arigato Varsity Jacket [GU2] is also redeveloped in luxury green and navy fabrics – with subtle embroidered chest and back branding.
Womenswear also expands into a wider breadth of silhouettes and premium fabrications. Stand-outs include a distressed leather blazer with sharp shoulder tailoring and a rear-to-front belt tie; a maxi skirt and shirt co-ord with crafted single and blanket stitch detail – and a green or grey trench coat complete with three optional lengths. Accessories include a mini-shopper bag in croc effect leather or woven straw – and a vegan signature bag with removable strap and ‘A’ hardware detail.
