The return of the creeper – Dr. Martens joins forces with Verdy‘s Girls Don’t Cry to remaster their alternative classic ramsey creeper.
The creeper has been part of Doc‘s history for decades, long adopted by experimental subcultures from Teddy Boys to punks. For their first collaborative project, Dr. Martens and Girls Don’t Cry have teamed up to revive a silhouette long favoured by Verdy’s wife.
This is a very special project for me and especially my wife since she used to work at Dr. Martens. I am happy to bring this collaboration to life.
— Verdy, Founder and Designer Girls Don’t Cry.
Since 2017, Tokyo-based project Girls Don’t Cry has grown from strength to strength – with a roster of hard-hitting collaborative partners and distinctive graphic designs shaking up the Japanese streetwear scene. The first Dr. Martens x Girls Don’t Cry partnership mirrors the origins of Girls Don’t Cry, which was initially created as a gift for Verdy’s wife. Now, at the centre of DM’s x Girls Don’t Cry is a silhouette his wife has always loved.
Teaming up with Verdy and Girls Don’t Cry isn’t just about fashion – it’s staying connected to the shared cultural touchpoints. Our close-knit bond with the GDC team mirrors our shared commitment to our likeminded community. The iconic creeper silhouette with hair on details – it flips the script, it’s a classic with a twist.
— Darren McKoy, Creative Director Dr. Martens.
The Ramsey creeper is built from black Smooth leather with a statement Hair On vamp and D-ring eyelets. Elevated on a smoke wedge platform sole with exaggerated cleating, signature Dr. Martens grooving, and iconic welt stitching. Branded details appear on the heel and laces, fitted with a gold Girls Don’t Cry heart charm. The shoe is also tagged with our black and yellow scripted heel loop.

The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. With its trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot for workers, initially worn by postmen and policemen; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to its competitors at the time.
Throughout Dr. Martens history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by diverse individuals, musicians, youth cultures and tribes. These are the people who stand out from the crowd and their journey of self-expression has always been accompanied by a pair of DM’s boots or shoes.
The simple silhouette allows people to customise each pair; whilst on a utilitarian level their famous durability and comfort make them ideal footwear for the world of gigs and street fashion. On an emotional level, they are a flag of attitude and empowerment.
The Northamptonshire factory where it all began still exists to this day, in the village of Wollaston. A specific range of ‘Made In England’ products are manufactured here by a small, close-knit team of people schooled in traditional shoe-making and a process that hasn’t changed since our first pair six decades ago.
