Bobkova, a Ukrainian fashion brand founded by Kristina Bobkova, presents its Spring/Summer 2024 Collection at Berlin Fashion Week.
UPDATE (09/27/2023): Bobkova was one of the “Seven Ukrainian Brands which presented their Spring/Summer 2024 Collections at MFW, from September 19th to 23rd, with a prestigious, appointment-only showroom presentation at Corso Concordia, 10 Milan, Italy.
Drawing inspiration from gardens and the designer’s love for gardening, this collection reflects a sacral attitude towards nature deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture. It also conveys the feeling of aspirational hope that she experiences while living and working in Kyiv, the city where all the brand’s collections are designed and crafted.
The inspiration for the collection stems from the shape and hues of the mallow, the flower which is woven through Ukrainian culture and symbolises protection. It is reflected in the print of the collection created by Ukrainian artist Polina Moroz. The color palette of the collection includes vanilla, milky lime, dusted rose, blush, and greyish beige, reflecting the subtle tones of the flower as well as bold and fresh colors such as lavish green and sunny yellow found in the typical landscapes of Ukraine.
The porcelain earrings and necklaces of various colors with a subtle touch of gold are handcrafted by Ukrainian ceramist artist Jeva Smith. The shapes resemble the garlands of mallow flowers.
At the core of Bobkova’s ethos is a conscious approach to fashion production. All garments are produced in Ukraine, and the brand actively practises upcycling to minimise waste. Leftover textiles are transformed into ribbons and knit into textured textiles, which are then incorporated into dresses, jumpers, tops, shoes, and bags. The decorative flowers are assembled from pieces of lace and silk. The brand’s emphasis on handmade details ensures the uniqueness of each piece, with unfinished details that showcase the signs of handmade imperfection, such as visible stitches and cuts.
The Spring/Summer 2024 collection captures the essence of strength and femininity which lay at the core of the Bobkova brand. It consists of masculine trouser suits with oversized shoulders, paired with wide-legged or fitted trousers, and provides comfort essential for modern women. The collection showcases a variety of dresses, a staple of Bobkova’s designs. Designer prefers to use the bias cut for the knitted and silk dresses, which makes them fluid and body flattering. They take centre stage in the collection alongside loose-fit shirt dresses and poncho dresses with an enchanting touch of handcrafted textile flowers. The looks are completed with mules with uppers made out of upcycled textile and flat pump leather shoes.
Casual attire, the essence of the Bobkova brand, takes on a festive mood within the new Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Costumes adorned with smoking details, long ribbons cascading from décolleté areas and flowing out of cuts, and flower decorations evoke an image of feminine beauty covered with mallow blossoms.
The Bobkova Spring/Summer 2024 collection beautifully encapsulates the designer’s passion for Ukrainian culture and her commitment to conscious fashion. Embracing a joyous mood, the collection tells the story of craftsmanship, elegance, and female empowerment.
