Beyond boasting an insta following of over 5.8M, a Rock star of a brother and an impressive journalism career, Gemma Style‘s is adding eyewear designer to her resume.
Kenmark Eyewear, a leader in crafting and distributing original optical eyewear and sunglasses, has collaborated on a second limited edition sunglass collection with Gemma Styles. The collection first launched in 2018 with four styles. This season the collection features five new styles and new colorways of a first season favorite. The styles are named Don’t Stop, Goodbye Stranger, Take It Easy, Turn To Stone, Seven Wonders, and The Young Ones. All styles retail for $68 and are sold exclusively on baxterandbonny.com
In creating this collection, Gemma focused on the longevity of the styles, making sure the frames could be loved by their owners for years to come. This means quality was a priority. In addition, it was important to her that the frames weren’t designed within a narrow trend that doesn’t age well.
I always ask myself; will I still love this next year? This helps me realize if this is just a trend which will pass or if it’s something I can enjoy for years to come.
— Gemma Styles
Along those same lines, sustainability is something Gemma prioritized with this collection. We partnered with a very energy conscious factory, who generate at least 80% of their electricity from solar panels, order in low quantities to minimize any waste and have chosen shipping materials that can be recycled or will break down. We’ve also designed a new case with a flat bottom to give you the option of giving it a second life as a jewelry box. We’re also introducing a new multi-frame travel case which is made from two plastic bottles!
Kenmark says, “We’re so excited to launch another collection with Gemma. We love what we’ve created together, such fun and classic styles, with a focus on sustainability in what we’re doing with the brand. We think everyone is going to love them!”
Continuing the theme for the first collection, each sunglass is named after songs from her favorite playlist that embody the look and feel of the style. One of the frames is even a tribute to her grandmother; she found a photo from the early seventies that inspired ‘The Young Ones’ style. “I hope she would have enjoyed the tribute,” she says. Gemma also wanted to give back to a cause near and dear to her heart, mental health. To do so, she created a special ‘Find the Light’ style (‘Don’t Stop’ in Caramel) specifically to donate 10% of the proceeds to mental health research. It was important to her that this style have a positive song association.
In addition, Kenmark orders each style in low quantity runs to minimize any waste and have chosen shipping materials that can be recycled or will break down. As an added bonus the case can be converted into a jewelry box.
