For Resort 2019, Delpozo creative director, Josep Font, imagines a universe marked by the mystery and magic of cacti collected in the work of Korean painter, Kwang-ho Lee; and the vibrant color palette of London based illustrator Charlotte Ager
Font explores this season the contrast between beauty and delicacy of cacti flowers against the aridity of their sharp thorns. These flowers bloom – and disappear – in a fascinating way: some bloom only at night, in the absence of light; others may take up to 15 years to flower for the first time, while a certain type its flower only lasts 24 hours. The fleeting of their short-lived life is also reinterpreted in a series of detachable organic motifs that add a playful nuance to the collection’s dresses, blouses and jackets.
Delicate tulle yokes lighten up the thickness of viscose, like an organza multicolor jacquard, while poplin shirts come with ruffled tulle. Grosgrain ribbons bloom between the stitching of garments to highlight their lines recalling the natural shape of cacti.
Different versions of striped textures surface within the creations of Font. The juxtaposition of a striped linen, in different directions, both in red and in light blue, result in a kaleidoscopic effect. A play on textures and contrasts; bold yet delicate as the Delpozo woman.
The fresh and luminous palette echoes the colorful world of Charlotte Ager. Rose, jade, raspberry and navy blue, are a few of the color scheme for resort; as well as the freshness of her daily scenes that are reflected in her fast and vital stroke. Vibrant colors with floral motifs in the cotton fil coupeé accentuate the silhouettes and stand out for their translucid and ethereal embroidery, which are inspired by jellyfish and Bryan Whitney’s X-ray flower images.
This season, the accessories gain more prominence with the addition of the new Cactus bag, a bucket style handbag; and a reinterpretation of the staple Gret style in mid-size, coming in multicolor editions.
Alongside the frilled mule in the lightest shades of pink, blue, ivory and purest white, that recall the works of Ager in their stroke and color; a multicolor moccasin sees the light as well as a kitten heel sandal so light made of crinoline.
