June 11, 2010 - The guitar is the ultimate symbol of rock and roll, and Guitar World magazine has been its voice for three decades.
Since it was launched in 1980, it has become the world's best-selling magazine for musicians. Guitar World brings the reader into the artist's universe, from the studio to the stage to the debauchery that takes place after the gig.

Throughout its 30 years, musicians as iconic as Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, Jack White, Slash and B.B. King have used Guitar World as their personal pulpit. Significantly, in 2007 Jimmy Page granted Guitar World his first wide-ranging interview on Led Zeppelin's historic reunion.
"In the world of rock and roll, it's the guitarists who always push the boundaries and set the trends," said Guitar World Editor-in-Chief Brad Tolinski. "Nobody ever looked better-or more dangerous-doing this than icons like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. It's a thrill to have a fashion house like John Varvatos acknowledge Guitar World and our role in creating those indelible images."
John Varvatos states, "As Guitar World celebrates a milestone in the music industry with their 30th anniversary and we celebrate our 10th anniversary in fashion, we felt it was a great way to bring together both worlds in a nod to the ultimate guitar 'bible'." |
What makes the magazine unique within its category is its antic spirit and ability to poke fun at itself. In recent years, it has published special 3-D issues complete with glasses, featured Hugh Hefner and The Girls Next Door on its annual Buyers Guide and hired a medium to conduct a séance at Electric Lady Studios to see if the spirit of Jimi Hendrix could be contacted. The magazine has also acknowledged the impact that fashion makes on the world of music, as when it published an in-depth, couture-conscious style guide to dressing like a rock star.
Guitar World Publisher Greg Di Benedetto added: "It's an absolute honor to see a designer like John Varvatos recognize Guitar World on its 30th anniversary. The magazine's three decades of covers truly reflect the power of the guitar and the artists who wield them, as well as the vital role fashion plays in rock."
