Designer Devi Kroell Unveils Dax Gabler
Designer Devi Kroell Unveils 'Dax Gabler' |
February 19, 2011, New York - Designer Devi Kroell, recipient of the prestigious CFDA Swarovski Perry Ellis Award, returns to the New York fashion scene this Fall 2011 season, with the unveiling of her new line, Dax Gabler.
The highly anticipated designer collection features ready to wear, footwear and handbags ranging in price from $250 to $890.
Dax Gabler, Kroell's grandmother's maiden name, is of Tyrolean heritage.
"I found it fitting to pay tribute to my Tyrolean roots with this introductory collection. I wanted the collection to feel rich, but in this very understated way." says Kroell.
For Fall 2011, Kroell specifically found deep inspiration in the Austrian/German art movement, "New Objectivity". One of the lesser-known artists of that movement was Alfons Walde; a Tyrolean artist who painted snow covered mountains and Tyrolean daily life in a minimal, contrasting aesthetic.
The collection features the subdued color palette of traditional Tyrolean folk costumes: shades of grays, browns and black.
"The aesthetic is all about texture, a beautiful texture rendered through hand knitting. I found the colors very modern and relevant." says the designer. |

The ready-to-wear is made from mountain sheep wool that can only be found in a specific area of Tyrol, Austria. The base colors of the wool remain as they were found in nature, without any dyes or chemical manipulations.
For the accessories, the designer again looked to the Tyrolean Mountains. The result is a modern yet wearable assortment of shoes and handbags; the shoes are all flat in design and the bags feature century old necessities of alpine hunters and gatherers in the region.
The Designer - Devi Kroell
The fashion world took notice when designer Devi Kroell stepped into the scene in Spring 2004 with the launch of her eponymous collection of exotic skin handbags. In 2006, her acclaimed designs earned her the CFDA's prestigious Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Accessory Design and also a nomination for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. In May of 2010, Kroell left her namesake company, Devi Kroell Inc., and today is no longer affiliated with the company or its brand of products. Fans rejoice as Devi returns to designing with the introduction of Dax Gabler for Fall 2011. Having grown up around the world, today, Devi is a self proclaimed New Yorker residing in New York City with her husband and daughter. |
