August 15, 2011 - [London] - Ever since the first Twins for Peace shoes were produced in 2009 with the intention to provide simple, elegant and at the same time socially responsible footwear for both men and women, the brand and the impact it has had on global betterment has deservedly been going from strength to strength.
Born out of an idea by twins Maxime and Alexandre Mussard (whose partnership provided the name for the brand), the profits of the sales of the first 200 pairs of shoes supported the organisation "Projeto Alavanca" and the deprived children of the São Remo favela in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2010, children in Mozambique benefitted from a similar shoe project established between Twins for Peace and the Spanish-based charity "Cruzada por los Ninos".
Each Twins for Peace collection benefits a different social enterprise or non-governmental organisation in a developing country.
Each pair of shoes that is sold in the developed world finances another pair that is offered to a child in financial hardship. This second pair of shoes is tailored to the needs of the children and is produced in the shoe project's country as a way to stimulate its economy.
Guided by a basic philosophy instructing individuals to 'be good, be cool', Twins shoes are produced in a family-owned factory in Portugal where high quality work, workers rights and fair salaries are respected.
