We are well aware of the popularity of scrapbooking. Preserving memories in an organized fashion has become a staple of everyday life for millions of Americans. Now the trend is evolving from the bound page into wearable art.
Recently, I was in Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills. Walking through the jewelry department, I noticed a crowd surrounding a woman dressed in the latest designer look and sporting a 22-carat emerald cut canary diamond on her ring finger.
Were they admiring the ring? Not this jaded audience. Instead, the "oohs and ahs" were directed at her charm bracelet; each charm had a photo of one of her many grandchildren. It seems her daughter had conceived and made the bracelet for her as a gift by printing out the photos on her Epson home color printer and transferring each image into a charm on the bracelet.
Increasingly we will be seeing more women proudly sporting images of their children and/or grandchildren, pets, etc. engraved or inserted into their jewelry, t-shirts, etc.. This trend satisfies consumers' desire for 1) customization and 2) personalization and 3) uniqueness while providing friends, family (and strangers) the opportunity to discover and adopt this latest trend.
